Ecosurety is the latest organisation to sign up to the Plastics Industry Recycling Action Plan (PIRAP).
PIRAP is an industry-led strategy to bring together the entire plastic packaging value chain, plus national and local policy makers, to take action to increase recycling. PlasticsEurope is working with the British Plastics Federation (BPF) to implement PIRAP with the support of WRAP.
James Piper, Managing Director of Ecosurety, says “Through the launch of Circularety this year, we have actively engaged with the different sectors involved in plastic packaging recycling. We’re proud to support this initiative as it lines up with our vision of making positive and sustained changes to improve recycling in the UK. Compliance schemes are in a privileged position to contribute and advise on how recycling can progress in the UK and we look forward to playing an active role in PIRAP.”
PIRAP supporters commit to the shared goals of PIRAP and work towards specific targets which collectively increase plastic packaging recycling. These targets help to meet PIRAP’s goals of creating and promoting end markets for recycled plastic, extending the range of plastics collected from householders, improving engagement by householders, identifying and improving infrastructure, and considering end life in design.
PIRAP’s quarterly newsletter brings together updates from the PIRAP stakeholders, as well as providing an opportunity to share best practice within the industry.
Helen Jordan from the British Plastics Federation says “PIRAP was launched in 2015 to provide a collaborative approach to meeting the government plastic packaging targets. PIRAP was the first time that the whole plastic packaging value chain was brought together and shows how each stage of the value chain can impact on recycling. There are 50 supporters of PIRAP and progress has been made by all parts of the value chain. We encourage more companies and organisations to get involved in PIRAP.”
